Eco-friendly teams threaten to sue Biden over Trump-period waterway permits

A coalition of environmental groups warned the Biden administration Monday it would sue if the Military Corps of Engineers fails to rethink Trump-period permits for industry exercise they fear will pollute waterways.

The recognize of intent to sue from the Center for Biological Range, Sierra Club, Pure Sources Defense Council and others targets 16 so-named nationwide permits that allow for discharges from oil and gasoline enhancement, pipeline and transmission-line design, and coal mining into waterways.

“The Trump administration flagrantly violated bedrock environmental legal guidelines when it reissued the Nationwide Permits, without having regard for the individuals, sites or wildlife that are impacted by this deeply flawed system,” Jared Margolis, a senior lawyer at the Centre for Organic Diversity, claimed in a launch. 

“I’m hoping President Biden will stop the Corps from continuing to use the permits to rubber-stamp major tasks like oil pipelines that leak and spill, degrading the thoroughly clean water that people today and wildlife will need.”

The groups are specially worried with no matter if the permits meet requirements under the Endangered Species Act to guard important habitat.

The Military Corps of Engineers did not promptly respond to request for remark.
